Highlight the minimum value

If we want to highlight the minimum value within a range, we might use Conditional Formatting with the formula =MIN(range), but that will highlight the entire range. What can we do?

  1. Select the 3rd rule: Format only values that rank in the top or bottom
  2. Bottom 1
  3. Completed
  1. Select the 6th rule: Use a formula to determine which cells to format
  2. Enter the formula: =B2=MIN($B$2:$D$2)
  3. Completed
The above formula works as follows:
  • =MIN($B$2:$D$2) computes the minimum of B2:D2, which is 10.
  • Then check whether B2=10; if so TRUE, otherwise FALSE.
  • After evaluating B2, evaluate C2 and D2; only C2 equals 10, so it's TRUE.
  • Therefore C2 will be highlighted.
