Excel Spotlight Feature


If you want the cell you click to be instantly highlighted, you might think you need VBA. You don't — it's just built-in Conditional Formatting. Here's how to do it in 30 seconds.

  1. Select the table → Conditional Formatting → New Rule


  2. In the formula box, enter:
    =OR(CELL(“row”)=ROW(),CELL(“col”)=COLUMN())


  3. Format → set your preferred highlight format, e.g., yellow fill


  4. Done — click different cells with the mouse and press F9.
