To help users more easily find important information hidden in their inbox, Gmail is rolling out a major update to the "summary cards" feature to automatically surface key information before users need it.

- Real-time information display: When users are awaiting a package, the system shows the estimated delivery time; after the package arrives, it provides a link to the return policy.
- Automatic email organization: Gmail will automatically filter users' emails and elevate important information to a prominent position, making it easier for users to quickly find what they need.
- Search results optimization: Relevant "summary cards" will appear at the top of search results during a search, so users don't have to sift through numerous confirmation emails.
- User experience considerations: While adding "summary cards" to the inbox may be controversial, Google believes that if the cards are useful and easy to dismiss, users will welcome them.
This update is not a large-scale AI initiative but rather an improvement in Gmail's ability to extract useful information from emails. The new cards have been rolled out in select emails on iOS and Android, initially covering shopping information only, and will expand to more categories and scenarios in the future.
