If you need to translate documents in many different formats — Word, Excel, even PDF — copying and pasting sentence by sentence into Google Translate is too tedious. So here are three useful translation tools.
- 1. Microsoft Word's built-in translation tool
- Review > Translate > Translate Document
- After selecting the languages, you can translate.
- However, the document must not be too large or it may become unresponsive. Approximately a maximum of 40 pages.
- After translation, a new Word document will open; just use Save As to save it.
- This uses Bing Translate for the translation.

- 2. Google Translate
-
- Many people think Google Translate only translates sentence by sentence, but that's not the case.
- Just click here:https://translate.google.com/?hl=zh-TW&sl=en&tl=zh-CN&op=docs
- You will see 'Documents' — here you can upload an entire file; Word, Excel, PPT, and PDF are all supported, very convenient.
- However, you should consider whether your file is confidential.
- Note the file must not exceed 10MB.

- 3. Baidu Translate
- Like Google Translate, it cannot be larger than 10MB.
- URL:https://fanyi.baidu.com/mtpe/#/editor/quickImport
- You also need to log in, i.e., have a Baidu account.
- However, translations of Mainland documents tend to be more accurate and sound more 'modern' ('洋气'), more 'upmarket' ('高大上'), even 'reflecting the document's great civilization'.
